Gunne Sax began in 1969 in San Francisco. It brought the prairie trend to the seventies with puffy sleeves and delicate, floral prints. The long silhouettes and separate, frilly tiers on the dresses were quite a contrast to the micro-mini dresses of the sixties.
The brand was started by Jessica McClintock and is still in existence under her name. Of course, the styles now sold are more relevant to current trends.
There is something admirable about how Gunne Sax’s very signature silhouettes, patterns and materials. It’s something inspirational that designers can draw from eras on.
